Natural Born Hustla: Jay-Z Gets Into The Legal Marijuana Business

And y’all thought Jay-Z was done with getting that drug money, huh? Well, technically he is if you’re looking at it from a street hustling point of view, but according to CNN the Hip-Hop mogul has now entered the legal marijuana business and the question isn’t so much “why’d he do it?” as much as it is “why’d he take so long to do so?”

Regardless of why Jay took his sweet time to join the booming legal marijuana business he finally did and has signed up to become the Chief Brand Strategist for one of California’s most popular marijuana dispensary’s, Caliva. In the announcement on the dispensary’s website, Jay explained why he chose to do business with Cali based company.

“Anything I do, I want to do correctly and at the highest level. With all the potential in the cannabis industry, Caliva’s expertise and ethos makes them the best partner for this endeavor. We want to create something amazing, have fun in the process, do good and bring people along the way.”

But this isn’t some simple ploy to pander to the Hip-Hop community (as if that was necessary), but a move that’s aiming to provide actual business opportunities to those who’ve paid their debt to society only to find their limited job options when they come home.

“In this position, Mr. Carter will focus on and work to increase the economic participation of citizens returning from incarceration — many of who are not seeing the monetary benefits of legalization — through advocacy, job training and overall employee and workforce development,” company officials said in a statement.

Jay-Z and Cavila about to create more jobs for the urban community than Donald Trump has for coal miners. That’s just future facts at this point.

Hova now joins a small list of rappers which includes Snoop Dogg and The Game who’ve gotten into the legal marijuana game that’s growing out in California. Now if only other states would just get on board and legalize the personal use of a plant that grows out of the earth we’d be in a much better place economically with less of our friends and family members behind bars…
