Are we hearing right? Is Wendell Pierce really set to play blues legend B.B. King in an upcoming feature film? Sheeeeiiiiiiiiit. Count us in!
A few days ago the actor known for prolonging the acronym to “sugar honey ice tea” like nobody’s business confirmed that “Preparation has begun on a film” which will feature Pierce taking on the role of the King in the upcoming movie based on the life of the “Beale Street Blues Boy,” The Thrill Is On.
We are official. Preparation has begun on a film where I will be honored to play the great, BB King. Humbled. pic.twitter.com/Y9JJvA3WW2

That’s hot business right there.
Interestingly enough in a second post, Pierce actually revealed that he had originally promised “The King of The Blues” that he would “honor him and his creative genius” right before he passed away.
I promised BB King before he died, I will honor him and his creative genius. An American Icon. pic.twitter.com/htICX6IIif

The blues icon passed away in 2015 at the age 89 from vascular dementia. While some might say they’d “honor” someone’s lifework very few actually follow through on that promise. We’re glad to see Wendell is a man of his word and can’t wait to see this film which was obviously many years in the making.
Can’t wait to see Wendell jam on that guitar and possibly sneaking in a “Sheeeeeiiiiiiit” somewhere in the film.
