Daniel Kaluuya Channels Fred Hampton In ‘Judas And The Black Messiah’

The trailer for Ryan Coogler’s Judas and the Black Messiah dropped Thursday. Daniel Kaluuya stars as Fred Hampton, the chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party who was assassinated by the FBI. The events of the movie follow Hampton as he give speeches, run the Panther’s free breakfast program in Chicago and puts in work to lead his people to freedom. Kaluuya’s Get Out co-star Lakeith Stanfield plays Williams O’Neal, the undercover agent who plays a major role in setting up Hampton’s death.

The film also stars Ashton Sanders, Lil Rel Howery, Jesse Plemons and Martin Sheen.  The folks behind Judas and the Black Messiah are adamant about a theater release. There’s no clear date given but the trailer mentions that it’s coming in 2021.
