Cash Money’s Birdman is looking to spread his wings and get his Cash Money Films imprint up and running again by partnering with Benny Boom to executive produce the upcoming movie, Tazmanian Devil, according to Deadline.
Written and directed by Solomon Onita, Jr., Tazmanian Devil, the film follows 19-year old Nigerian immigrant as he struggles to choose between joining a college fraternity or bonding with his estranged father, a pastor at a local church. The movie stars Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation), Adepero Oduye (When They See Us, 12 Years a Slave), Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Chi) and Kwesi Boakye (Claws).
The movie is done filming and is currently in post-production. Birdman and Benny are coming in to provide some financial backing to help with marketing and distribution of the indie film.
“I am honored to work with Benny; we share a great history in the music business over the past 20 years,” Birdman told Deadline. “Benny and I have often discussed making films together and this project presented us with the perfect opportunity to produce a great movie.”
“I have been creating visuals for Cash Money artists for decades and I am excited about this next phase of our collaboration,” Boom added. “Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams has supported me since my first years Directing and this joint venture is a natural business and creative transition–the first of many.”
Boom’s relationship with Cash Money started in the ‘90s when he directed videos for many of the label’s artists.
