Interracial relationship drama, ‘Loving,’ bought by Focus

LovingMovieBack in 1958, Richard and Mildred Loving fell in love and got married. Their home state of Virginia wasn’t very happy about that since Richard was a white man and Mildred was a black woman and interracial marriage was illegal. The state tried to jail them, then banish them, and their trials and tribulations became the subject of landmark Supreme Court case and an important moment in the battle for civil rights.

According to Deadline, Focus Features has bought the film based on the story. In the film titled Loving, which was directed by Jeff Nichols, we follow the story of Richard and Mildred Loving as they battle against the racist laws of Virginia. Starring Joel Edgerton as Richard and Ruth Negga as Mildred, the film is based on the 2012 HBO documentary, The Loving Story.
