Aurora Perrineau, Ryan Guzman cast in ‘Jem and the Holograms,’ no Latina yet

AuroraShanaLast week part of the cast for Jem and the Holograms were announced and Aurora Perrineau, Harold Perrineau’s daughter, will be playing Shana. It was also announced that Ryan Guzman will be playing the part of Rio Pacheco, Jem’s love interest, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

For those unaware, Jem and the Holograms was an ’80s cartoon that focused on Jerrica Benton, her singer alter-ego Jem, her band the Holograms. The band consisted of Jem, her sister Kimber, Shana, who is black, Aja, who is Asian, and sometimes Carmen (Raya), who is Latina. The film is going to have a different take than the ’80s cartoon to be more relatable to the millinials who were too young to enjoy the show.

Aubrey Peeples will be playing Jem, Stefanie Scott will be playing Kimber, Hayley Kiyoko will be playing Aja. The role for Carmen hasn’t been announced. That is, if they’re going to include the character in the film. Folks already aren’t happy with the casting, but it would be nice if they added Carmen. But according to this teaser poster, it doesn’t look like it:

Ahh well, enjoy the ’80s jams below:
