According to Mike Fleming, Jr. over at Deadline, MGM is looking to revive Ice Cube’s Barbershop franchise and get busy working on Barbershop 3 with the rapper/actor to produce and star. It’s been 10 years since Barbershop 2. And why not? Both films, the original and the sequel were money makers for MGM.
“They are about to start talking to writers and I’m told the hope is to reenlist Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah as well,” Fleming, Jr. wrote. “The 2002 original cost $12 million and grossed $75 million domestic while the 2004 sequel cost $30 million and grossed $65 million.”
After a successful run with Ride Along earlier this year and 22 Jump Street later this summer, Cube is getting kinda hot again in these Hollywood streets. It’d be smart to take advantage. Cube is also working on the NWA biopic which begins production this summer.
