Terrence Howard tapped to star in Lee Daniels’ hip-hop drama

terrencehowardLooks like Terrence Howard is getting back into the hip-hop acting world according to Variety. The actor has been cast in a lead role for Lee Daniels’ upcoming hip-hop drama Empire for FOX TV. Howard will be playing the role of Lucious Lyon, a music industry heavyweight and the patriarchal figure in the drama. The description of the character sounds like a ’90s Suge Knight.

The script is being written by Danny Strong, who wrote The Butler and the pilot is being directed by Daniels. Last time Terrence Howard played hip-hop, in Hustle and Flow, he was nominated for an Oscar.
