SNL addresses cast’s lack of Black women with Kerry Washington

Kerry-Washington-SNL-Cold-OpenSince Saturday Night Live’s new season began two months ago with the addition of a bunch of white dude’s the show and its ringmaster Lorne Michaels has been criticized for its lack of diversity. With so many Black women at the top of pop culture — Michelle Obama, Oprah, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj — you would think that it would be a priority for the show, which mocks pop culture on a weekly basis, would want to have a cast that matches that. Especially since Kenan Thompson apparently refuses to dress in drag now..

“It’s not like it’s not a priority for us,” Michaels told the Associated Press over the weekend about adding a Black female cast member. “It will happen. I’m sure it will happen.”

In the meantime, SNL opened Saturday’s show with a sketch dealing with the subject. But were they making fun of themselves or mocking the critics? Check it out below:
